New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner has claimed he received only 50% of his salary for the 2026 IPL season after his campaign with Mumbai Indians was cut short by injuries. Santner said the reduced payment was disappointing, especially after he suffered injuries to both shoulders within two weeks while representing the franchise.
The 34-year-old played only four matches for Mumbai Indians, taking five wickets and scoring 26 runs before being ruled out of the tournament. Santner revealed that he first injured his right shoulder shortly after joining the team and later damaged his left shoulder after returning to action.
Speaking on the Grade Cricketer Podcast, Santner dismissed suggestions that he had faked an injury to leave the IPL early. He said he had put his body on the line for the team and was surprised to receive only half of his contracted fee. His comments have raised questions because IPL regulations generally require franchises to pay injured players their full contracted amount if the injury occurs during the tournament.
