Lebanon announced a partial ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah on Monday, marking a limited step toward easing tensions in the region.

Under the agreement, Israel will refrain from strikes on Beirut and its southern suburbs, while Hezbollah is expected to halt attacks on Israeli territory. However, the deal does not end the conflict, and fighting continued in southern Lebanon.

Israeli forces carried out strikes near Nabatieh and other southern towns, while the Israeli military reported intercepting projectiles launched from Lebanon overnight.

US President Donald Trump said both sides had agreed to the arrangement through intermediaries, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that military operations in southern Lebanon would continue.

Meanwhile, Iran signalled it may suspend indirect peace talks with the United States, citing the situation in Lebanon. Rising tensions in the region also pushed global oil prices up by 4% on Monday.

Lebanon is expected to seek a broader ceasefire during talks in Washington later this week.
