Weekly inflation rises 0.47pc as annual rate reaches 14.52pc

Pakistan’s weekly inflation increased by 0.47 percent during the latest reporting period, pushing the overall annual inflation rate to 14.52 percent, according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics.

Data released in the weekly inflation report showed that prices of 23 essential commodities increased over the past week, while nine items became cheaper and 19 remained stable.

Among the sharpest increases, tomato prices rose by 22.13 percent, followed by flour at 4.94 percent. Diesel prices increased by 3.76 percent, while petrol prices went up by 3.73 percent during the week.

Onion prices rose by 2.98 percent and bananas by 1.93 percent. Prices of potatoes, fresh milk, yogurt, and sugar also recorded increases, adding to pressure on household spending.

On the other hand, chicken prices declined by 6.34 percent during the week, while egg prices fell by 3.83 percent and garlic prices by 2.20 percent.

The report also noted reductions in the prices of LPG and pulses.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), which tracks short-term changes in the prices of essential goods, is widely used to measure inflationary trends affecting different income groups across the country.
