Pakistan optimistic mediation efforts can help ease US-Iran conflict: Ishaq Dar

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday expressed hope that Pakistan’s efforts to mediate an end to the US-Iran conflict will succeed at the earliest, calling it essential for regional and global stability.

Addressing foreign ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps in Islamabad, Dar said the ongoing conflict had already “dented global GDP to a great degree,” adding that ending hostilities in the Middle East remained Pakistan’s “goal and aim” as a facilitator and mediator.

He said Islamabad was actively engaging both Washington and Tehran to encourage a peaceful settlement, stressing that Pakistan has consistently supported restraint and stability in the region.

Dar noted that he had been in contact with around 120 counterparts globally since the onset of the conflict, reflecting what he described as Pakistan’s serious diplomatic outreach to help achieve a truce.

According to him, Pakistan has played a key role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides, including efforts that led to a ceasefire earlier this year, followed by attempts to bring both parties into structured negotiations.

He said the Islamabad Talks held in April had reached an “advanced level” and expressed optimism that they would conclude successfully in the near future.

Reiterating Pakistan’s position, Dar said the objective is a “dignified and mutually acceptable” resolution to the conflict, adding that Islamabad continues to act as a bridge between the US and Iran.

He, however, said details of mediation efforts could not be disclosed due to the sensitivity of the matter.

His remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, even as Iranian officials have acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and stressed that there is no military solution to the crisis.
