According to the Punjab Housing Department, more than Rs191 billion in interest-free loans have been disbursed to low-income residents across the province for home construction.
Provincial Housing Minister Bilal Yasin stated that 135,410 families have so far received financial support to build their houses.
He added that the completion of over 91,000 homes represents a record milestone, while around 42,000 houses currently under construction are expected to be finished within the ongoing financial year.
In a meeting with Sikandar Zeeshan, Director General of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency, the minister highlighted that recoveries exceeding Rs10 billion in instalments demonstrate the transparency of the programme.
Bilal Yasin noted that home ownership is now becoming a reality for low-income groups, adding that more than 1.176 million applications have been submitted under the scheme.
It is worth mentioning that in 2024, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif unveiled a comprehensive plan to construct 100,000 houses for low-income citizens.
While chairing a meeting on the ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar’ project in Lahore, the chief minister called for a detailed strategy to execute the housing initiative.
The meeting also decided that over 3,000 houses would be constructed in each district of Punjab for low-income families.
