According to reports, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong met Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The two leaders held discussions on recent regional developments.
During the meeting, the ambassador expressed China’s strong support for and appreciation of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to promote dialogue between the United States and Iran aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond.
The deputy prime minister reaffirmed the Pakistan–China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, highlighting the strength of bilateral relations and stressing the need for continued high-level engagement between the two sides.
Earlier the same day, China described a reported US blockade around Iranian ports as “dangerous and irresponsible,” following remarks by US President Donald Trump warning that any vessels attempting to enter or exit the ports could be targeted.
Trump had ordered the blockade of ships in and around Iranian ports and coastal areas in the Gulf after peace talks over the weekend failed to yield results.
The blockade took effect at 1400 GMT on Monday (April 13), despite both the United States and Iran having agreed to a two-week ceasefire just days prior.
“The US has increased its military presence and implemented a targeted blockade, which risks escalating tensions, undermining the already fragile ceasefire, and threatening the safety of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said during a press briefing.
